About Us
Peter Parsons
and his love of all things LEGO
27 April 1959 - 5th July 2008
In 2001 Peter was present at the first ever Brisbane Lego collectors
meeting, BUGS as it was called then. Right from the start he was very
enthusiastic and interested in getting involved. By the second meeting
he was talking about setting up a LEGO train layout at his place and
for others to come along and also be involved.
And so began his love affair with LEGO trains. He was involved with
Space LEGO before this but it was the LEGO trains he truly enjoyed. It
was not long before there was a small group of regulars meeting at
Peter's place to play LEGO Trains. And it was in 2002 Peter organized
for the LEGO Train layout at his home to be displayed at the Brisbane
Model Train Show and with that the Brisbane LEGO Train Group was
formed, with Peter as its President.
Since his death the BLTG had been to numerous shows and won many awards,
today it is the largest permanent LEGO Train Layout in Australia.
Peter was often quoted saying that he was the founding member of the Brisbane
LEGO Train Group. This was not to brag but because he was especially proud
to be a part of this great and worthwhile achievement. Despite set
backs with regards to his health Peter was always able to be there
whenever a Lego event was run and any extra help was required.
Peter was also involved in other LEGO related endeavours. He often had
a display at the Ipswich library which was widely appreciated by all
visitors to the library, especially the kids. He also has a working
display of a QR coal train and an EMU workshop diorama at the Workshops
Railway Museum. He had models in the display at the front counter at
Hobby One at Mt Gravatt. But he was most chuffed by the fact that he has
LEGO Models of QR locomotives, which he personally designed and built,
were on display in the QR Boardroom.
Peter also had many contacts within the LEGO collectors community such
as eBay, Lugnet and Bricklink from all around the globe. In these
forums Peter was always willing to give his 2 cents worth, even if it
upset the apple cart, but he was also willing to give praise and
replace some apples if he had to as well.
But one of Peter's greatest pleasures was to see the crowds of people
and the amazement and wonder on their happy smiling faces when they saw
the many LEGO Train displays he had been a part of setting up. This was
when he was most happy. In this Peter's legacy will live on within the
Brisbane LEGO Train Group.
Peter, on behalf of all in the Brisbane LEGO Train Group, thank you for
the great years we have had together, it's been a pleasure to know you.
You will always be with us in ours hearts and in our LEGO Train
displays. Rest in Peace, we know you are happy with that endless supply
of LEGO you have up there, no doubt building the ultimate LEGO Train Layout.
